GACS AI is a Zendesk alternative priced on conversation volume rather than per agent seat. It is an AI customer service agent that answers on your website widget, WhatsApp, email and phone calls from your own documents, then hands off to a human with the full transcript. It is a smaller product than Zendesk. This page says exactly where that matters.
Zendesk works. That is worth stating plainly, because most people reading this page are already running it and are not looking for reasons to hate it. They are looking for a reason the bill makes sense.
The bill has two parts. The first is seats. Support Team is $19 per agent per month for ticketing only, which is not the Suite. Suite Team is $55. Suite Professional is $115. Suite Enterprise is not published and goes through sales. All of those are the paid-yearly rates. On top of that, Copilot is $50 per agent per month, Workforce Engagement is $50, and Contact Center is $83.
The second part is the AI meter. Zendesk bills AI per automated resolution, and their own wording is that "you pay only for customer requests that were successfully resolved by the AI agent, without any escalation to a human agent." Their docs define three outcome tiers, and only a Verified resolution counts against your allowance. Assisted escalation and Contained resolution do not.
Here is the part that is hard to plan around. The per-resolution dollar rate is not published anywhere. Not on the pricing page, not in the documentation, not in the newsroom post. The included allowance per plan is not published either. You can model your seat cost to the dollar and you cannot model your AI cost at all until you are inside a sales conversation.
That shows up in reviews. From G2:
"The cost can add up quickly as your team grows or if you need advanced features, making it less budget-friendly for smaller businesses."
"Zendesk want to charge high price for automated usage without providing any drill-down or break-down how these were used."
Neither of those is a product failure. They are a pricing-model fit problem.
| Zendesk | GACS AI | |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing model | Per agent seat, plus a separate AI meter | Per conversation volume and connected channels, no seat charge |
| Entry price | $19 agent/month Support Team, ticketing only. $55 agent/month Suite Team | $149/month Starter for 500 chats, plus a $299 one-time setup. Growth $399, Scale $899, Enterprise from $2,000 |
| AI pricing | Billed per automated resolution. Rate and included allowance not published | Included in every plan, no separate AI meter. Starter 500 chats, Growth 1,500 chats + 200 call minutes, Scale 4,000 chats + 600 call minutes. Extra chats $0.25, extra call minutes $0.40 |
| Cost, 5 agents and 1,000 conversations | $275/month in seats on Suite Team, plus unpublished AI charges | $274/month on Starter (500 chats included, 500 extra at $0.25 each), plus the $299 one-time setup. Growth at $399 covers 1,500 chats and adds 200 call minutes. No seat charge, so 5 agents cost the same as 1 |
| Channels | Very broad. Email, chat, voice, social, messaging, plus a large app marketplace | Website widget, WhatsApp on your own number, email, inbound and outbound voice |
| Languages | Extensive, with mature enterprise localization | 50+, including Arabic and English inside one conversation |
| Setup time | Longer. Routing, SLAs, business hours and brand structure are configured before launch | Widget is one snippet. WhatsApp connects from the dashboard through Meta's official Cloud API flow |
| Live agent handoff | Yes, with routing rules, skills, queues and SLA enforcement | Yes, with the full transcript and AI reply suggestions for the agent |
| Ecommerce actions | Through marketplace apps and integrations | Not available. No refunds, returns or order edits |
| Published benchmarks | Zendesk publishes product and industry benchmark material | None. We have not published any, and we will not quote a number we cannot support |
| Free trial | No free plan. 14-day trial on Professional | No free trial. Book a 20-minute demo, then a $299 one-time setup. No self-service signup |

Two rows there go to Zendesk outright, and one more is close. Channel breadth is not a contest. Neither is the marketplace. If you need a benchmark number in a board deck next week, we do not have one to give you.
Stay if you run roughly 25 agents or more. Seat pricing punishes small teams and stops being the dominant line item at scale, where the operational depth starts paying for itself.
Stay if you run multiple brands from one support organization. Multi-brand structure, per-brand routing and per-brand help centers are genuinely hard to replace, and GACS AI does not replace them.
Stay if your support operation depends on workforce management, quality assurance scoring, or shift and staffing forecasting. Zendesk sells Workforce Engagement for a reason, and there is no equivalent here.
Stay if you are in a regulated industry or a multi-region setup where audit trails, data residency and granular governance are procurement requirements. Stay if your reporting lives in Explore and your team has built dashboards nobody wants to rebuild. Stay if your workflow depends on specific marketplace apps, because our integration list is short.
Switching in any of those situations would be a downgrade, and we would rather tell you now than in month three.
Pricing is tied to conversation volume and the channels you connect, not to how many people you employ. Hiring two more support staff does not change the invoice. For a team of three to fifteen, that changes the math considerably compared with per-seat billing plus a meter with an unpublished rate.
One agent covers four channels. The same knowledge base answers the website widget, WhatsApp on your own business number, email and phone calls. WhatsApp connects through Meta's official Cloud API signup flow from the dashboard, without a developer.
The knowledge base stays current on its own. Import your site by URL, upload PDFs, write entries by hand, or connect a Google Drive folder or a Notion workspace. Drive and Notion stay synced, so the document your team already edits is the document the agent answers from.
Arabic and English work inside the same conversation. A customer who switches mid-message does not get a broken reply. 50+ languages are supported, and the bilingual case is the one we built for deliberately.
Handoff carries context. When the agent should not answer, the conversation moves to a person with the full transcript, and the agent suggests replies while that person types. Connected catalogs render product cards in chat. More detail on the features page.
No published benchmarks. No resolution rate, no accuracy figure, no deflection percentage. We have not measured and published one, so we will not quote one.
No public case studies or customer logos yet. The product is live and the references are not public.
Shopify order tracking is live: customers can ask where their order is and get the answer from Shopify. Full catalog sync and live stock answers are still in build, along with Calendly, WhatsApp bulk campaigns and streaming voice. BigCommerce and Magento are not planned natively.
No order actions. The agent cannot process a refund, start a return, edit an order or check live stock levels. If ecommerce actions are your main requirement, read the ecommerce page and the Gorgias comparison before talking to us.
No self-service signup. Every account starts with a conversation.
You do not turn Zendesk off on day one, and we would not suggest it.
We start by importing your knowledge. Your help center gets pulled in by URL, along with PDFs, policy documents and whatever lives in Drive or Notion. That usually takes a day or two of review rather than a rebuild.
Then the widget goes on one page, or on the whole site with handoff set to trigger early. WhatsApp gets connected to your existing business number through Meta's flow. Your agents work in the handoff inbox and keep Zendesk open in another tab.
You run both for a few weeks and watch the analytics. Handoff rules get tightened from real conversations rather than guesses. When the volume that never reaches a human is large enough to matter, you decide what to do about your Zendesk seat count. Some teams cut seats. Some keep Zendesk for complex tickets and put GACS AI in front of it. Both are fine.
Historical ticket data stays in Zendesk. We do not migrate ticket history, and you should keep that export regardless.
Zendesk has no free plan, only a 14-day trial on Professional. Among AI-first tools, Tidio has a genuine free tier at $0 per month with 50 billable conversations and 10 seats, which is the closest thing to a free Zendesk alternative that actually exists. GACS AI has no free tier and no free trial. Plans start at $149 a month with a $299 one-time setup.
Zendesk on Suite Team is $55 per agent per month paid yearly, so five agents is $275 per month before any AI charges, and the AI rate is not published. GACS AI is priced on conversation volume and connected channels rather than seats, so headcount does not move the number. Plans start at $149 a month for 500 chats (Starter), then $399 for 1,500 chats and 200 call minutes (Growth) and $899 for 4,000 chats and 600 call minutes (Scale), each with a $299 one-time setup. Extra chats are $0.25 and extra call minutes $0.40. See the pricing page.
It is not published. Not on the pricing page, not in the docs, not in the newsroom post, and neither is the included allowance per plan. Zendesk states that only a Verified resolution is billed, and that Assisted escalation and Contained resolution are not. The dollar figure comes from sales.
Knowledge import is usually a day or two. Running both systems in parallel for two to four weeks is the normal path. Ticket history stays in Zendesk, because we do not migrate it. Nothing is switched off until you decide to switch it off.
For a small team answering repetitive questions across chat, WhatsApp, email and phone, often yes. For a team relying on SLA enforcement, multi-brand routing, workforce management or the app marketplace, no.
We will look at your actual Zendesk invoice, your conversation volume and your question mix, and tell you whether switching saves you money. Sometimes the answer is that it does not.
